Publishes bounded session-backed small stream reads while preserving genuine streaming above the fixed 10 MiB ceiling.

Validation: 14/14 release gates; 6,922 observed tests across Node, Bun, and Deno; npm and JSR dry-runs passed.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added bounded persistent session reads for small streaming blobs up to 10 MiB.
    • Preserved streaming behavior, bytes, errors, and compatibility with existing APIs and storage formats.
    • Larger blobs, unsupported adapters, and failed bounded reads continue using the existing fallback behavior.
  • Documentation
    • Added v6.5.7 release notes, upgrade guidance, and updated feature documentation.
  • Release
    • Updated the package to version 6.5.7 with release-candidate verification details.

Walkthrough

The repository documents the v6.5.7 release candidate. It records bounded persistent cat-file reads for blobs up to 10 MiB, preserves fallback behavior, updates release metadata, and adds validation for candidate status and release documentation.

Changes

v6.5.7 Release Candidate

Layer / File(s) Summary
Feature and release documentation
BEARING.md, README.md, UPGRADING.md, CHANGELOG.md, docs/releases/v6.5.7.md
Documentation describes bounded session-backed reads up to 10 MiB, one-shot streaming for larger or unsupported blobs, and v6.5.7 release information.
Design and release evidence
STATUS.md, ROADMAP.md, docs/design/..., docs/method/retro/...
The design is marked landed. Candidate evidence records implementation, verification, failure behavior, and pending publication steps.
Package release metadata
jsr.json, package.json, src/package-version.js
Package and exported version metadata changed from 6.5.6 to 6.5.7. The new release notes are included in packaged files.
Release documentation validation
test/unit/docs/*
Tests validate candidate status, publication markers, release queue references, packaged documentation, and v6.5.7 release-note content.

Estimated code review effort: 2 (Simple) | ~10 minutes

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 7631d

The release metadata does not yet record the candidate commit, and the unpublished-state validation does not check release notes, so release provenance and publication-state checks can be incomplete. Merge should wait for these bounded release-readiness fixes.

Poem

I’m a rabbit with notes in a neat little stack,
Bounded streams hop while fallbacks stay back.
Ten MiB gates mark each careful read,
Release facts and witnesses record what we need.
v6.5.7 twitches its nose—
Awaiting its tag before publication grows.

Stale prior-head review. Both findings were fixed in signed commit 234bde5, replied to, and resolved after validation. Exact-head lint, unit, Node, Bun, and Deno checks are green; CodeRabbit reports pass because the follow-up review is rate limited. The release-notes gap also has a named mutation calibration.
