Summary

  • reuse the repository-scoped typed cat-file session for readBlobStream() blobs at or below a fixed 10 MiB ceiling
  • preserve direct one-shot streaming for oversized, unsupported, and exceptional routes without speculative content reads
  • commit deterministic SHA-1/SHA-256 process-topology, byte-equality, and lifecycle evidence

Safety boundary

  • no public API, object identity, manifest, ref, retention, or migration change
  • maxBlobSize cannot raise the fixed session-buffer ceiling
  • objects above 10 MiB are metadata-inspected once and content-streamed once; they are never session-buffered
  • issue v6.5.7: Reuse bounded Git sessions for small streaming reads #115 remains open until v6.5.7 publication is independently verified

Proof

  • 32 small fallback reads: 32 one-shot children
  • 32 small session reads: 1 persistent child, 0 one-shot children, identical semantic digest
  • 10 MiB + 1 byte: 1 metadata session, 0 session content reads, 1 genuine content stream
  • Docker real-Git coverage includes SHA-1 and SHA-256 repositories and zero active sessions after close

See the machine-readable witness and verification record.

Validation

  • npm run release:verify — 14/14 gates, 6,919 observed tests
  • focused Docker real-Git topology suite — 9/9
  • pre-push lint plus Node unit gate — 2,108 passed, 2 skipped
  • git diff --check

Tracks #115.

How do review limits work?

CodeRabbit enforces per-developer PR review limits within each organization.

For paid Pro and Pro+ reviews, CodeRabbit uses a developer's included PR review attempts over the past 7 days to set the current hourly allowance. At typical activity levels, the full plan allowance applies. Higher sustained activity can lower the allowance until earlier attempts leave the 7-day window.

📝 Walkthrough

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Performance
    • Improved streaming reads for blobs up to 10 MiB by reusing an existing session.
    • Preserved one-shot streaming for larger blobs and fallback scenarios.
    • Maintained existing behavior for unsupported objects, missing metadata, and read failures.
  • Documentation
    • Added design, verification, diagnostic, and release-planning documentation for bounded stream session reads.
  • Tests
    • Added coverage for small and oversized blobs across SHA-1 and SHA-256 repositories, including cleanup and fallback behavior.

Walkthrough

readBlobStream() now uses persistent Git sessions for blobs up to 10 MiB. Larger, unsupported, invalid, or failed session reads use the existing one-shot stream path. Tests, diagnostics, design records, witnesses, and release tracking document the behavior.

Bounded stream session reads

Layer / File(s) Summary
Runtime contract and design
docs/design/0058-bounded-stream-session-reads/..., docs/design/README.md
Defines metadata-first routing, the 10 MiB limit, fallback behavior, lifecycle rules, acceptance criteria, and validation evidence.
Adapter routing and buffered reads
src/infrastructure/adapters/GitPersistenceAdapter.js
Routes eligible blob reads through typed sessions and returns buffered content as an async stream. Oversized, unsupported, metadata-failure, and session-failure cases use one-shot streaming.
Session instrumentation and diagnostic measurement
scripts/diagnostics/*
Tracks active sessions and session operations. Adds a diagnostic that measures payload equality, process usage, size routing, and session closure.
Behavioral validation and release evidence

Adds unit and integration coverage for supported, oversized, unsupported, and failed reads. Records witness results and v6.5.7 release tracking.

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to a3476

The PR reuses bounded Git sessions for small blob streams while preserving one-shot handling for larger or unsupported reads, with extensive validation supplied. No actionable merge-blocking risk remains; a test failure path can leave temporary repository files behind and should be cleaned up in follow-up.

Poem

I’m a rabbit with a session to spare,
Small blobs hop through Git with care.
Big blobs stream along their way,
Failed reads fall back without delay.
Ten MiB keeps the burrow neat—
Tests count every byte and beat.

Learning: In this repo, CHANGELOG.md entries should be user-facing and descriptive (bullet points) rather than cycle-ID headings (e.g., use a phrase like “Planning-index consistency review” instead of a “TR-010 — …” heading). When searching the changelog, don’t rely on grepping for cycle IDs (e.g., “TR-010”) because it may cause false negatives; search for the descriptive keywords/phrases from the bullet entries instead.
