Log hangs when branch name is ambiguous

To reproduce branch name ambiguity:

• git branch <1st letter of current commit hash>
• repeat git commit until another commit starts with that

Then, do git log. Observed results: commits up to the branch created turn blue, can still type in the prompt, but pressing enter doesn't do anything.
