fix: cap claim TTL to the short default once an item reaches in_review - #481
Conversation
An item's job can finish, push, and open a PR (mark_in_review), then sit un-heartbeated for well over 30 minutes while still inside the caller's full active-work TTL (4h by default). Both agentflare work's claim-acquire path and mcp item release checked staleness against that full TTL, so a finished item stayed unclaimable and unreleasable for hours even though nothing was still actively working it. item::claim now caps the requested TTL to the short default while an item is in_review via claim::effective_ttl_secs, and item_release's own steal check uses the same helper so both paths agree on what counts as stale. Held-claim error messages now also report the TTL actually applied, so a human isn't left guessing why a claim considered "live" looks old. 📝 WalkthroughWalkthroughThe change adds state-aware claim TTL calculation. In-review items use the default TTL, while other items retain the requested TTL. Claim acquisition, release checks, MCP responses, CLI errors, and regression tests now use or report the effective TTL. ChangesClaim TTL handling

Make the regression test independent of the configured default TTL.
If AGENTFLARE_CLAIM_TTL_SECS is 14400 or greater, this test fails at Line 881 before it tests reclaim behavior. Derive a requested TTL that is greater than default_ttl and use it for both claim calls.

Investigated the two failing checks: fmt — fixed (99ca18): windows-latest hang (4 tests, 300s×3 tries) — ruled out as a regression from this PR's changes:
Conclusion: this is a pre-existing, transient Windows-runner flake (subprocess-spawn stalling for an extended window, likely Defender/AV-related on that VM instance) — not something introduced by this branch. No code change needed here. Worth a separate low-priority item if it recurs (e.g. add explicit test-level timeouts around subprocess-spawning tests, or investigate the runner-level stall), but not something that should keep blocking this merge. |
