Many programs use environment variables, like tmux uses $TMUX, wayland applications use $WAYLAND_DISPLAY, as well as $XAUTHORITY, $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR, $DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS, etc. Bug: https://bugs.gentoo.org/915393
