Ubuntu: snaps can't access /tmp

I pressed the SVG preview button, but Firefox cannot find the file.

Here's the error message in my browser:

Firefox can’t find the file at /tmp/friction_svg_preview_Sowxrn.html.

I am on Ubuntu 24.04 using the Firefox browser.

SVG preview works just fine.

Firefox in Ubuntu is a snap package and don't allow access to /tmp. If Ubuntu cares about usability they should implement a permission system ("do you want X to access files in Y") or change the system temp default.

Anyway, I could introduce a setting or change the temp folder globaly for Linux (xdg cache in home (no, can't do that, snaps can't access dot dirs) or something, we already do this when running in a flatpak).

I added a workaround. Download latest build: https://linux.ci.friction.graphics (1.0.0-CI-d2fb04f5)

Open ~/.config/friction/friction.conf in a text editor.

Scroll down to [files], then add a new line with tempDir=/new/path

Example:

[files]
tempDir=/home/rodlie/Downloads/friction

The temp path must be somewhere in your home folder (dot folders can't be used).

I will add a GUI option later.
