@rarmatei, I'm quite elated about your PR. I wanna evolve this project to addresses various problems faced by first time contributors. I'd love to learn about your journey in open source community, the problems, pain points you had etc.

Could you explain how you felt when you went through the tutorial, made a PR and learned that I accepted it?

It felt great! I always wanted to start contributing, and your guide pushed me past that first step.

I in my day to day job I use a Pull Request Workflow, so it wasn't that part specifically that kept from creating my first PR, but it was more to do with the projects available and finding an issue I could start working on without spending days getting familiar with a project.

I tried before to setup this project: https://github.com/CoderDojo/community-platform
But had a lot of difficulties with PostgreSQL, and their guide didn't go into that much detail around this.

After I finished your guide however, I went to FreeCodeCamp and they have an amazing guide for setting up the project. I also found a really easy issue I could solve as my first PR. I got a response almost immediately to my PR, with a thank you, and some explanation around what I could change. All in all, it's been a really great experience, and I'll probably continue looking for ways to contribute to that project.

Really appreciate your work around setting up this repo, and hope it's going to help a lot more people!

That's brilliant @rarmatei. I'm super happy to learn about your experiences.

As I explained earlier, we started off this project to address various problems faced by first time contributors. Setting up dev environment is definitely one of them. We're still not sure how to solve this.

As an experiment, we've started a slack team. You can join the team by going to https://firstcontributions.herokuapp.com

You can probably help someone who is struggling to set up or contribute to FreeCodeCamp.
