Always crashes on loading of a level

Whenever I try to load into a level in the VR mod, it immedietly shows a white crash dialogue, with

EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION Attempt to write data to address 0x00000000 The memory could not be "written"

in a box.

Normal mode works fine. compatibility mode did not fix this.

Quest 3 over steam link
7950x3d
RX 6700xt

Try changing your openxr runtime to steam, and then back to oculus. I forget which, but changing it helped me.

i am on a ryzen 7 3700x, 32gb ram, 9070xt 16gb. the standalone game runs fine but after installing the vr mod i can no longer play it. both non-vr and vr give the same crash.

Try to disable the "Vertical Sync", set "Anti Aliasing" to "None" and "Anisotropic Filtering Level" to "0".

After that delete the FarCry.dxvk-cache file in the game's root directory and run the game again.

Since you have Meta Quest 3, try the Virtual Desktop instead of Steam Link. In Virtual Desktop you can easily switch between "SteamVR" and "VDXR" OpenXR runtimes.

i assume it's an issue with the dxvk version bundled with the mod and it not being compatible with more modern gpus, if i try updating the dxvk version it just crashes at launch and doesnt even get to load any levels

i tried it again on my older ryzen 7 5800h, 32gb ram, 3050ti 4gb laptop and it worked without any issues so this is definitely an issue with newer gpus that don't have the same set of instructions for vk as the older cards

The problem is not in the GPU hardware, but in GPU drivers.

Older version of DXVK (used in this mod) requires the old version of Vulkan API.

New GPU driver versions use new version of Vulkan API.

There are two possible solutions:

1. Use an older driver for your GPU. However, this may not be possible for brand new GPUs, as old drivers may simply do not exist.

2. Rebuild this mod from source code using the latest version of DXVK. The new version of DXVK uses the same new version of Vulkan API as the new GPU drivers.

@fholger Could you please help with point 2? It seems that if this is not done, the number of open issues of the same type will only increase.

The game creates 2 files (log.txt and FarCry_d3d9.log) in the game's root folder when launched. Please also attach both of them here.

I tried using an older version of vulkan runtime i found on the wayback machine, the version was from april 2023 or so and after that i would get a longer set of errors in the “Critical exception” window. I will provide the logs after I get home from work

These are not the errors i was getting before, these are new and now the game crashes at launch, not at loading a level.
