Context

Using pyproject.toml instead of setup.py is now strongly encouraged by the Python Packaging Authority, as much of the legacy setup.py packaging interface has been deprecated.

Changes

This PR includes the following changes:

  • Migrated the project configuration from setup.py to pyproject.toml.

    • Converted all supported metadata and configuration fields.
    • Removed the deprecated long_description and download_url fields.
  • Removed the PyDispatcher dependency, as it does not appear to be used anywhere in the project.

  • Removed the bs4 dependency, as it also does not appear to be used (from bs4 import BeautifulSoup comes from beautifulsoup library).

How to test

Build the project by running:

$> python -m pip wheel --no-deps .

Hey @fhamborg 👋
Just wanted to follow up on this PR (and the other one with the formatting rule), let me know if there's anything I should adjust before it can be reviewed !
