Consider the url knockout.chat, for example, which as of writing only has a favicon.ico set (which is 192x192 pixels) and a 512 by 512 icon in the website's manifest.json:
https://{account}.faviconkit.com/knockout.chat/32: returns the full-sized 192 x 192 favicon
https://{account}.faviconkit.com/knockout.chat/64: returns an SVG with the first letter of the domain name.
https://{account}.faviconkit.com/knockout.chat/128 (and any other value): returns Archive.org's lower resolution favicon.
Other examples of domains giving me similar problems are jwt.io (which does appear to have Apple Touch icons set) and any sites which just have a favicon defined. I personally feel that showing an SVG letter when requesting them at resolutions higher than 64 pixels would look far nicer than a small icon blown up.
