osmo-combo should warn about building ancient versions

osmo-combo is building ancient versions of non-mainline osmocom code without clearly stating so.

This has lead to confusion with a number of users. A default build of osmo-combo is e.g. building osmo-bts version b78554342cb2344b13c17bfeaada0509cac5b51c, a fairwaves-specific branch whose base version is from 2014, missing three years of fixes and features.

Please kindly clearly indicate in the README that this utility is:

• not building master versoins but fairwaves branches that have not been merged master
• building multiple years old versions

Thank you for your feedback. First of all I didn't expect that a number of users are confused. I think it's easy to update the default branch to actual state, one just need to update the subrepos. If you tell me which version of default branches are good I can do it myself.

It has just happened again and again. I would say I get some confused user every other week. Please either make sure that osmo-combo by default builds current master, or kindly remove osmo-combo completely or rename it.

Osmocom has official nightly builds. This is what people should use and report bugs against.

I'm sorry to have to reqeust this, but it really has a negative impact on user experience :/
