LibLaserCut Changes
- Fix ruida engraving and speed (t-oster/LibLaserCut#186)
- Allow engrave overscan beyond normal machine limits (must be enabled in machine settings)

Install on Windows
We are sorry for the intimidating procedure below. Keep this website open, it is easy to get lost.
Microsoft makes it very hard to install open source software. They apparently believe that all open source software is dangerous. In reality experts can verify what visicut actually does -- being open source.
- Download VisiCut-1.8-310.1+20181009jw+1-Windows-Installer.exe
- (If no warning appears, visit your Downloads folder, click on the yellow exclamation mark shown with visicut)
- A warning dialog "Was blocked because it could harm your device" appears.
- Move the mouse over the right hand side of the warning. Three dots '...' appear. Click there, select "Keep"
- A larger warning dialog appears "This app might harm your device". It has a "show more v" button. Click there.
- An option "Keep anyway" appears. Click there.
- Now the download file has an "Open file" link underneath. Click there.
- A large blue dialog appears: "Windows protected your PC, ... [More info] [Don't run]"
- Click on "More info", a new button "[Run anyway]" appears. Click there.
- A dialog "Do you want to allow this app from an unknown publisher to make changes" should appears.
- If nothing appear, check your task bar for a blinking icon. Click there, to make the dialog appear.
- Click "Yes", then "Install".
- If you install VisiCut for the first time
- A dialog appears "No Java Runtime Environment could be found. JRE v1.8 will be installed". Click [Install]
- After Java is installed, sometimes, a webpage with the "Java uninstall Tool" opens and hides the VisiCut Installer.
- Close that website, bring the VisiCut Installer to the front to finally click [Install] there.
- When you start VisiCut for the first time, "Windows Defender Firewall" opens, it blocks access to some networks.
- Click "[Allow access]"
- When VisiCut is started successfully for the first time
- It may also ask you to install default settings. Choose your FabLab from the list instead.
- Also, go to the "Extras" menu, and install inkscape and/or illustrator extensions.
Install on MacOS
- Download VisiCutMac-1.8-310.1+20181009jw+1.zip
- When you click open the download, a warning appears "Visicut is damaged, ..." - ignore that. Do not move it to the trashcan.
- Open a terminal, run
sudo spctl --master-disable
to avoid "is damaged" or "untrusted developer" errors. - Double-click the zip file to install.
- Finally run
sudo spctl --master-enable
Install on Linux
- Download visicut_1.8-310.1+20181009jw+1-1_all.deb
- Open with GDebi Package installer or save as file and double-click to install.
Thunderlaser with safe layer start
Attention: With inkscape 1.1 you must save SVG, and load SVG with visicut manually. The integration in the extension menu only works with inkscape 0.94.x --
Attention Window users: A dialog now prevents installation, because the software us unsigned, and thus considered "insecure". Same problem now, as with Apple. We are still not convinced to pay royalties to Microsoft or Apple. Solution: Click "More Information" there you'll find an install button that works.
try fix #38
Mac users: If you get an error message similar to "VisiCut.app is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the Trash" try this:
sudo spctl --master-disable
- try install again
sudo spctl --master-enable
Newer versions of MacOS no longer say 'is from an untrusted developer', but they say 'is damaged' instead. In reality there is no damage at all. It is simply not signed with an official MacDeveloperKey, as I am not yet convinced to pay royalties to apple.
