As part of my work as an archivist and IT manager at the Labour Movement Library and Archives (Copenhagen), during the transition to IT-based systems we sought to find solutions that would allow users to search across all collections, i.e.: archival material, the library, the photo collection, the poster collection, the banner collection, etc. The internal division of the material into different collections was, of course, of no interest to users. If a user was interested in, for example, former Prime Minister Th. Stauning, it was crucial to be able to offer digital search options that spanned all collections.
To achieve this goal, we sought a solution that linked the danMARC2 system used by Danish libraries with ISAD(G)/ISAAR (CPF). We also drew inspiration from the Swedish National Archives’ work on ARKIS II.
At the same time, we attempted to verbalise the so-called DK5, the classification system used by Danish libraries.
We sought to realise this objective in collaboration with Reindex (https://site.reindex.net).
For general information, I have attached a number of documents:
In particular, the mapping of ISAD(G)/ISAAR (CPF) and danMARC2 in the ABA archive format might be of interest for any plans to expand Pinakes to include the ability to handle archival material.
I am also attaching a copy of the format for image cataloguing, although this is probably more relevant to Cimaise.
