When we merged 1559, we changed the "internal"
SuggestPriceAPI method toSuggestGasTipCap. Well, turned outethstatsdid a runtime cast to check if that old method existed, and since it did not, it fell back to light client mode. As such, stats reported by Geth nodes mostly lack almost all block data. Oops.
