@opjulian

Description

@opjulian

Proposed Foundation Mission Request: The Foundation has previously issued Mission Requests to experiment with govNERDs, who help shepherd proposals through the feedback, approval, and voting process. The govNERDs have been effective at reducing the role of the Foundation in this process to date. In Season 7, the govNERDs will continue to evolve as an open contribution path. This Mission Request will support up to 9 govNERDs that will execute the essential core governance operations outlined in the contribution path. the govNERDs program will be managed by the govNERD Lead

Intent: A set of interoperable Stage 1 chains doing $250M in cross-chain asset transfers

Total grant amount: 2,500 OP for Season 7 and 714 OP for the Reflection Period per govNERD

Should this Foundation Mission be fulfilled by one or multiple teams: Up to 9

OP Labs or Optimism Unlimited Sponsor: opjulian

Submit by: January 9

Selection by: January 15

Start date: January 16

Completion date: July 24

How will this Foundation Mission Request help accomplish the above Intent?

An important part of the Season 7 Intent is that it requires a decentralized governance system to achieve it. The govNERD program supports the Season 7 Intent by ensuring the ecosystem has the robust, decentralized governance infrastructure and support needed to coordinate and execute at scale. The continuation of the govNERDs program in Season 7 builds on their proven success reducing the Foundation’s role in executing core governance operations.

What is required to execute this Foundation Mission Request?

The govNERDs program will operate in accordance with the Season 7 Contribution Path Charter. This Charter clearly outlines the scope and responsibilities of the Contribution Path so the program can be more effectively managed by the community but it does not mean that the contribution path inherits the properties of elected Councils.

The govNERDs role is collaborative, supportive, and hands-on

  • Communication & Content Creation
    • Draft and publish voting cycle guides, roundups, and related communications
    • Make timely voting announcements for Season 7 and reflection periods
    • Monitor and report on forum and Discord activities
    • Respond to community questions within 48-hours in designated channels
  • Community Support & Education
    • Organize and facilitate support calls for Retro Funding applicants
    • Mentor and support onboarding of new govNERDs
    • Support the Foundation in creating and implementing delegate and guest voter onboarding pathways
    • Provide guidance and assistance to community members in governance processes
  • Documentation & Process Improvement
    • Contribute to governance documentation maintenance and enhancement
    • Help identify and implement process improvements based on community feedback
    • Maintain detailed records of activities and outcomes
    • Collaborate on best practices documentation

This list is not static and the Foundation or Lead may request additional support (within reason) over the course of the Season.

How should the Foundation measure progress towards this Mission Request? Token House milestones are mostly about accountability, so they should measure progress towards completion.

  • govNERDs performance is measured against individual responsibilities and tasks as defined in the contribution path charter
    • The Lead will manage a public record that verifies which contributors have completed which tasks
    • There also may be 360 performance reviews done at the end of the season

[Any additional specification you’d like to add]
