[BUG] Add Server dialog buttons disappear #1828

Description

@jirish-hcs

Component

Lite

Performance Monitor Version

3.3.0

SQL Server Version

Azure 12.0

Windows Version

Windows 11 Enterprise 25H2

Describe the Bug

Selecting certain types of Authentication causes the screen scaling to go wonky (yes, that is the technical term). The box expands to allow for additional entry of data (Username and Password) and the buttons run right off the screen.

It is not possible to resize the screen to make them appear in the UI. They are there, however and I was able to work around them thanks to good tab order. There did not appear to be an ALT+ options when I tried to look for that.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open the App
  2. Click on the + Add Server option
  3. Select SQL Server Authentication, Azure -- Service Principal, or Azure -- Managed Identity
  4. Buttons are gone

It is possible to make them run off the page, but not completely disappear, by selecting Microsoft Entra MFA.

Expected Behavior

The Test Connection, Save and Cancel buttons of the Add SQL Server dialog box should not disappear or there should be a vertical scroll bar that allows to scroll down and see them.

Actual Behavior

The Add SQL Server dialog box appears to scale, but the buttons are no longer visible. The behavior appears to be there by tabbing to the button you desire, but it cannot be clicked.

Error Messages / Log Output

No error displayed.

Screenshots

This is the dialog box by itself.

Good catch, and thank you for the precise repro - the tab-order workaround detail and the screenshots made this a five-minute diagnosis.

You found it exactly: the dialog sizes itself to its content, resizing was disabled, and there was no scrollbar - so any auth mode with extra fields could grow it right past the bottom of a 1080p screen, buttons and all. Entra MFA only pushed them partway off because its panel is the smallest of the four. The Darling viewer had the same bug and got the same fix.

Fixed for the next release: the form now scrolls when space runs out, the Test Connection / Save / Cancel buttons are pinned below the scroll area so they are always visible, the dialog cannot exceed your screen's working area (it pulls itself back up if it would), and the window is resizable now. You also get the Alt keys you went looking for (Alt+T, Alt+S, Alt+C) and Esc cancels the dialog.

If you want to try it before the release: the nightly build comes straight off the dev branch, so the next one will carry this fix. Grab the Lite zip from the rolling nightly prerelease here - https://github.com/erikdarlingdata/PerformanceMonitor/releases/tag/nightly - it is an unsigned portable build, it uses the same per-user data as your installed copy, and nothing in the data format has changed since 3.3.0, so you can switch back to the release build afterward with no ill effects.

Until then, your tab-order workaround remains the way through, or pick the auth mode after filling everything else in so there is less below the fold.

Following up to close this out. Two fixes ended up shipping here: the dialog sizing bug that let the buttons fall off the bottom, and a deeper one found while fixing it, where the dialog clamped itself to the PRIMARY monitor's work area instead of the monitor it was actually on, so mixed-DPI and multi-monitor setups could still lose the buttons. Both are on dev, in the next release, and in tonight's nightly.

Closing as fixed. If the buttons vanish again after updating, comment here and it reopens.
