🦠 Mutant Licenses

A curated list of copyleft, ethical and queered open source software licenses.

Info

This is still a work in progress. In the future I'd also like to include a section for Codes of Conduct.

Name inspired by the hot Mutant Standard emoji set by dzuk.

Licenses

  • βš—οΈ [ACAB] ACAB License - No Law Enforcement, Carceral Institutions, or Immigration enforcement entities may use the work or products of the work. For any reason, be it for simulation, production of propaganda, or otherwise.

  • βš—οΈ Anti-996 License - The purpose of this license is to prevent anti-labour-law companies from using the software or codes under the license, and force those companies to weigh their way of working. A "996" work schedule refers to an unofficial work schedule (9 a.m.–9 p.m., 6 days per week).

  • 🌢️ [ACSL] Anti-Capitalist Software License - The Anti-Capitalist Software License is a software license towards a world beyond capitalism. This license exists to release software that empowers individuals, collectives, worker-owned cooperatives, and nonprofits, while denying usage to those that exploit labor for profit.

  • 🌢️ Atmosphere Software License - The Atmosphere Licenses are open source, copyleft software licenses with fossil fuel divestment provisions.

  • 🧊 [DAL] Digital Abundance License - A license that forbids cryptocurrencies, NFTs and other attempts to create artificial scarcity in digital environments. (Formerly know as the No Blockchain License)

  • βš—οΈ Do No Harm License - The Do No Harm License is for developers that agree in general with the principles of open source software, but are uncomfortable with their software being used as part of efforts to destroy lives, our environment and our future.

  • βš—οΈ [FAFOL] Fuck Around and Find Out License - Licensed software must be used for Good, not Evil, as determined by the primary contributors to the software.

  • 🌢️ [HL] Hippocratic License - The core license provides protections for universally recognized human rights, including specific provisions for Indigenous rights. We are also developing optional modules that focus on specific areas of concern, such as environmental justice or labor rights.

  • 🌢️ ml5.js License - Machine learning software license that requires users to adhere to the project's Code of Conduct, disallowing its use for discrimination against marginalized communities, disingenuously manipulating public opinion, mass surveillance and prediction to repress the rights of people or building tools that control weapons.

  • 🌢️ Nonviolent Public License Family

    • [NVPL] Nonviolent Public License - The Nonviolent Public License aims to ensure basic protections against forms of violence, coercion, and discrimination which creations are frequently leveraged for in the modern world.
    • [CNPL] Cooperative Nonviolent Public License - The Cooperative Nonviolent Public License and CNPL-NA go further and only allow commercial use of the copyrighted work for individuals and worker-owned organizations.
  • 🌢️ [PPL] Peer Production License - The peer production license is an example of the Copyfair type of license, in which only other commoners, cooperatives and nonprofits can share and re-use the material, but not commercial entities intent on making profit through the commons without explicit reciprocity. (Fork of the CC-NC license)
