Failed fetch

Hello,

I am using PubmedPDF and I noticed that many of my requests are failing. Is this because the script is outdated? See below:

Hi,

this script is old yes and have not looked at it, tried it or coded in Ruby
at all since I placed it on github several years ago. Having said that, I
just downloaded the script myself and after adjusting few things to make it
work with newer ruby/gem versions it downloaded my PDF just fine. The most
likely reason that you can not get the PDF is because you simply are not
allowed to download the PDF from the computer/IP you are using and that the
PDFs are not publicly available. You can try i.e.

ruby pubmedid2pdf.rb 19508715

I have not access to any journals from home but it found one open access
PDF. You can try to run the script at a University or similar that actually
has access to the journals.

Just to confirm, are the access to the journals dependent on a a login or locality?

For example, you must be on a university IP to actually have access to certain PubMed links for them to fetch successfully even though you don't need a login....versus having a residential line where the fetches fail?

Hi,

they are based on IP - some Universities / Libraries /Companies have purchased access to journals and this access will often be allowed by whitelisting an IP address. So if I ran this script at those places I would be able to download more PDFs than I would be at home, where I would only be able to access open access journals.
