Late 2013 model MacBook Pro. After install ALWAYS boots with "Account disabled" . Have tried numerous keypresses/ combinations during at least 20 power cycle reboots in attempt to invoke non-GUI startup but nothing appears to work... |

Decided to re-install old MacBook SSD which proceeded the current 1Tb one. The MacBook is STILL displaying the user prompt with "Account disabled". That means EOS installer is screwing up the supposedly safe EFI boot system...how can one fix this...or amI looking at scrap metal and plastic because of this. If so there will be bad publicity everywhere about EOS... |

This is hardware-independent known issue of OS 8. Duplicate of elementary/initial-setup#222 and fixed by elementary/greeter#879 which is not yet released. |

Hi... Thanks for your response to my EOS booting issue. I had read item
#222 (and I think it was #81) as well. I hope I'm not being too pedantic,
but in my case the MacBook Pro is furnished with an intel i7 plus 16gb
memory AND Nvidia GeForce GT750M graphics alongside the Intel embedded
graphics used for the Retina display in normal mode. As mentioned, it
simply got to displaying the user password screen but with "Account
disabled" as the caption and this behaviour could NOT be altered by a
reboot, i.e. a power cycle.
Eventually in the early hours this morning I re-installed an old hard drive
(these are the Apple specific NV types) that I had stored following the
upgrade to a 1tb version. When I put that SSD in, the MBP still booted as
far as displaying the account login screen but still captioned with
"Account disabled". That was very concerning. I eventually discovered the
key combo that permitted the MBP to instigate a NV-RAM "recovery process"
which I understand "re-writes" the UEFI back to factory default; and that
enabled the MBP to re-boot into its original MacOS ( Big Sur - 11.7.10)
with everything appearing to be intact and working.
Thus I surmise that the EOS install does something to the EFI system
resulting in an account authentication being required before the account
actually has been fully established. However, I don't have any way of
interrogating the 1Tb drive to see if there are any error messages or logs
since that would require an apple computer with a second SSD slot ( I think
some i-Macs have that). Hence I doubt I can help out much more with more
detail about the events so far described.
I presume your final comment suggest that EOS will be updated at some point
to solve this situation but as yet the fix is not released. Sorry but I
have almost no experience of Git-hub and thus am a little at sea how that
all works...
Best regards and thanks for your attention...
