Endless syncing-offline loop

Steps to reproduce

1. Have used the older Element app from F-Droid with no trouble at all on the same device and server.
2. Set up UnifiedPush with ntfy, verify it's working with other apps. (Unrelated I think, but you never know.)
3. Install Element X.
4. Log in and verify the device.
5. See all your chats/rooms with the latest messages.
6. Close the app, and then later come back to it.

Outcome

What did you expect?

I expect to see whatever new messages are there, for the app to just behave normally.

What happened instead?

It goes into an endless "syncing", "offline" loop and no chats ever update. You can see what it looks like in the attached video.

I just want to state that I was having the same issues, and it was caused by my server (maintenance, unavailable).

I have the same issue except that it happens quite frequently in one second. I tried restarting my homeserver (Dendrite) with no success. I can see "failed to get cross-signing keys for user" in the logs, as well as "Failed to QueryDeviceInfos for device IDs, display names will be missing"

My mates and I got this problem after updating Element X version to 25.03.0. And the issue is: app can't verify sliding sync support. When I'm trying to login app says: "This server is currently doesn't support sliding sync" and I'm not getting any logs neither on sliding nor on matrix dendrite.
Also app version 25.02.0 seems to be working fine.

EX now only supports Simplified Sliding Sync .
But there is an issue with the detection, so it currently doesn't warn you about it when it should.
There is no real solution a part from using a HS with SSS support.

I think the implementation of this feature was very badly timed. This feature should have landed at least when another homeserver supports the new proposal, as I believe only Synapse supports it right now. Conduwuit (non-official) added support, while Dendrite and Conduit, both supported (and funded?) by Matrix Foundation, haven't added support for it yet.

conduwuit implements it, and has had it implemented for a couple months now. conduwuit is also listed as a known homeserver implementation at https://matrix.org/ecosystem/servers/

Conduit is a totally hobby 3rd party server, not related to element. And dendrite's development has basically stopped, so these 2 implementations are not likely to set the standards, unfortunately.

But the issue has been morphed into sth quite different from what was reported originally.
