Steps to reproduce

See the Element Web issue element-hq/element-web#26565 for details. I don't know if it's an Element Web bug, or Element iOS bug.

Outcome

It would be nice not having to use Google Meet.

Unable to reproduce, Element iOS on mobile data, Element Web on WiFi. Both starting the call from iOS and from Web (with iOS in the background) work here. Please add more steps to reproduce the bug.
