Today every time ILM shrinks an index it adds an alias for the original index name pointing to the shrunken index. That may sometimes be useful, but it does generate an enormous number of single-index aliases which can be harmful to a cluster (see #104456) and in many cases folks don't need these aliases since there's another broader alias that covers both original and shrunken indices.
Can we consider making this alias creation optional?
