The PR closes Issue 4845.

We have documentation about ILM and data retention throughout the docs (links in the preceding issue), but nothing necessarily logs specific. This page should address those specific use cases and link to the other docs for more in-depth information.

Hi @LucaWintergerst, I've created this draft PR for logs data retention, but i think there are probably some logs specific scenarios that could be useful to users that I'm not thinking of. I've put some comments in the PR (prefaced by a %), if you wouldn't mind taking a look. Thank you!

hi @mdbirnstiehl , we have some additional capabilities coming in 9.1 (new API) that would alleviate some of these pains too
let's not merge this one yet. I like the direction in general, but we should also show off the new capabilities that make parts of it easier
in 9.2 we then also have nice UI support
