Add playframework and akka-http support

Hi!
we are developing new container-based applications with playframework (https://www.playframework.com/) and akka-http.
Is the roadmap to track these technologies on elastic apm?

Did you already filled the framework/platform support form?

Also, which versions of those frameworks do you plan to use ?

• play framework 1 or 2 ?
• play framework, java or scala variant ?
• akka-http: do you also use akka or just akka-http

Hello @SylvainJuge is there any plan so far for the suggestions made by @matpil above (akka-http)? @matpil do you have any workaround for the APM integration?

Hi @gtsopour ,

Automatic instrumentation support for Play framework and Akka http are not part of our short/mid term roadmap at the moment.
In the mean time, you could try using the agent API to implement custom tracing (usually using interceptors provided by each framework/library). In the case of Play framework @matpil provided an example here that should still be relevant.

Hi @TommyLanghelle , akka-http is still not part of our roadmap unfortunately.
However there are a few alternative approaches that you could use here:

• use the agent API or OpenTelemetry API and create manual instrumentation
• create an external plugin to the agent
• use OpenTelemetry Java agent which seems to provide support for Akka-http (but I haven't tried it) https://github.com/open-telemetry/opentelemetry-java-instrumentation, the Elastic apm-server supports OTLP intake so that's maybe the easiest option available short-term.
