REQ-VISUALIZATION-007: README still describes the pre-M3 Pages state after #491 #496

Description

@drevendev

Goal

Bring the root README's current-state and Pages wording into conformance with the now-merged M3 representation evidence, without changing runtime behavior, requirement meaning, or milestone mechanics.

Evidence

Fresh master after Issue #269 / PR #491 still contains two directly contradictory public claims in README.md:

  1. The opening paragraph says the current GitHub Pages deployment shows the legacy reference viewer and M1/M2 milestone previews. Post-merge QA of REQ-VISUALIZATION-006: publish the consolidated M3 LocalMarket Pages experience #491 accepted REQ-VISUALIZATION-006: the default Pages document now leads with the consolidated M3 LocalMarket experience and demotes earlier milestone material.
  2. Known scope boundaries says REQ-VISUALIZATION-006 "is not yet started". Issue REQ-VISUALIZATION-006: M3 polished LocalMarket Pages experience #269 is closed and the merged REQ-VISUALIZATION-006: publish the consolidated M3 LocalMarket Pages experience #491 implementation has already been accepted by QA as satisfying REQ-VISUALIZATION-006.

The same section also calls docs/spec/IMPLEMENTATION_STATUS.md authoritative. The project protocol explicitly says docs/spec/implementation_status.csv is the authoritative implementation-evidence ledger and the rendered Markdown is presentation only.

This is a post-merge public-documentation conformance defect. It is distinct from closed #445: that repair fixed the stale MarketIntent/per-tick/M2-ledger/milestone/browser-capability wording it owned, but #491 subsequently changed the Pages completion state that README now fails to reflect.

Scope

README/public text only. Make the smallest factual repair:

  • describe the current Pages default as the M3 LocalMarket experience, while keeping older milestone/reference material accurately characterized as secondary/history surfaces;
  • stop saying REQ-VISUALIZATION-006 is not started; describe its merged/implemented state consistently with current evidence;
  • link/name docs/spec/implementation_status.csv as the authoritative per-row implementation evidence, not rendered IMPLEMENTATION_STATUS.md;
  • keep M3 open while REQ-VISUALIZATION-007 itself remains unresolved and while correctness Issue Phase-8 hard-codes M3 tax inputs instead of consuming the required taxPolicy provider #481 remains separately tracked by QA.

Non-goals

  • No runtime, economic formula, schema, phase order, accounting identity, acceptance threshold, or v1 scope change.
  • No redesign of README structure beyond factual correction.
  • Do not patch docs/spec/mirror/.
  • Do not claim M3 closed merely because VISUALIZATION-006 is implemented.

Acceptance criteria

  1. README accurately states that the default Pages surface is the consolidated M3 LocalMarket experience delivered by REQ-VISUALIZATION-006: publish the consolidated M3 LocalMarket Pages experience #491.
  2. README no longer says REQ-VISUALIZATION-006 is not started.
  3. README identifies docs/spec/implementation_status.csv as authoritative implementation evidence and does not call rendered IMPLEMENTATION_STATUS.md authoritative.
  4. Existing TypeScript-first, C# reference-oracle, M11 Worker-observatory boundary, and M4/M5/M8 ownership wording remains intact.
  5. M3 is not falsely described as fully closed while REQ-VISUALIZATION-007 / Phase-8 hard-codes M3 tax inputs instead of consuming the required taxPolicy provider #481 remain unresolved.
  6. Documentation/build checks remain green.

Verification

Compare the updated README against current master Pages output from #491, the authoritative docs/spec/implementation_status.csv, and Handoff/11 milestone ownership. This is documentation-only conformance work; no economic behavior should change.

    Claim (AUTHOR)

    • Role: AUTHOR, unattended run.
    • Unit of work: this Issue, selected under AUTHOR_RUNBOOK section 2 item 4 (no open pull requests, no status:blocked Issue whose condition is resolved; REQ-VISUALIZATION-007: README still describes the pre-M3 Pages state after #491 #496 is the highest-priority non-policy status:ready Issue).
    • Intended scope: README.md public-text conformance only, plus the ledger row for REQ-VISUALIZATION-007 in docs/spec/implementation_status.csv and the generated docs/spec/IMPLEMENTATION_STATUS.md. No runtime, schema, formula or milestone-mechanics change.
    • Branch: claude/issue-496-readme-m3-pages-conformance.
    • Known blockers: none identified at claim time.

    Handoff (AUTHOR)

    Checks at that revision — npm run typecheck passed; npm test passed (45 files, 655/655, 7 net new); npm run build passed; python -m pytest scripts/tests passed (529 passed, 247 subtests); python scripts/implementation_status.py --check passed; python scripts/status_lint.py passed; dotnet restore passed; dotnet build --configuration Release --no-restore passed (0 warnings, 0 errors); dotnet test --configuration Release --no-build passed (45/45), so REQ-MIGRATION-003 is maintained. Nothing was not_run or unavailable except the two items recorded under Not checked in the pull request body: the live Pages deployment (all Pages assertions are against the committed docs/index.html) and prose accuracy beyond what is mechanically decidable.

    All six acceptance criteria are met, with evidence per criterion in the pull request body.

    Decisions taken

    1. Promoted the ledger row rather than leaving it PARTIAL. REQ-VISUALIZATION-007 was PARTIAL solely because the registry acceptance covers the README and its directly linked public docs, and the two linked articles carried open defects. Those were REQ-VISUALIZATION-008: local-market guide misstates expectation causality and bootstrap boundary #446 and REQ-VISUALIZATION-008: settlement guide conflates transfer conservation with later physical source/sink flows #447, merged as Issue #446: correct expectation causality and the bootstrap boundary in the local-market guide #486 and REQ-VISUALIZATION-008: separate transfer conservation from whole-tick stock flows in the settlement guide #489, and REQ-VISUALIZATION-008 is now IMPLEMENTED. Every registry ACCEPTANCE item was re-checked against the text on this branch before promoting.
    2. Cleared MERGE_COMMIT instead of carrying REQ-VISUALIZATION-007: correct six stale M2/M3/M4-M5/M11 claims in the README #484's forward. scripts/backfill_merge_commits.py fills blanks and never rewrites a value already present, so keeping f6894b33… would have permanently attributed this row to a different pull request's commit. This is inference from two mechanisms rather than a quoted rule, and it is flagged as such in the pull request body.
    3. Added a regression test rather than relying on prose review. src/diagnostics/readme-conformance.test.ts pins each mechanically decidable README claim to the artifact that decides it. Mutation-proved: 3 of its 7 tests fail against git show master:README.md and all 7 pass here. It is also the highest-risk file in the diff, and the pull request body says why.

    What remains: nothing from this run. No new Issue was opened — no out-of-scope work was discovered. #481, named in this Issue's acceptance criterion 5, closed on 2026-09-15 via #497, so that part of the criterion is moot rather than waived.

    Setting status:needs-review. I did not approve, merge, or push to master.

    ACCEPTED and merged.

    Evidence I observed at that head, independently of the pull request body:

    • Required checks green at 538b020f…: typescript, build-and-test, policy-guard, mergeability (merges cleanly into the base branch, and the branch was 0 behind master), write-mergeability-status.
    • Re-executed both runtimes at the checked-out head: npm run typecheck passed; npm test passed 655/655 across 45 files; npm run build passed; dotnet build --configuration Release 0 errors and dotnet test 45/45 with 0 skipped, so REQ-MIGRATION-003 is maintained; python scripts/implementation_status.py --check reported IMPLEMENTATION_STATUS.md matches 30 ledger row(s) over 49 registry row(s). python -m pytest scripts/tests was unavailable in my environment and is covered green by build-and-test at this SHA.
    • All six acceptance criteria met. Criteria 1–3 are now pinned mechanically by src/diagnostics/readme-conformance.test.ts: I reproduced the mutation proof by restoring master's README over the repaired one, and 3 of the 7 tests failed (the same three named in the handoff), which also demonstrates the requirement-identifier extractor is not vacuous. Criterion 4 verified by the absence of those sentences from the diff; criterion 5 by the Not closed section making no M3 closure claim.
    • README status claims checked against the ledger directly: REQ-MARKET-001..005, REQ-ACCEPTANCE-004, REQ-VISUALIZATION-006 and -008 all read IMPLEMENTED.
    • Diff confined to the four declared paths; no test deleted, disabled or weakened (195 lines of test added, none removed, suite 648 → 655); no invariant touched; no secret, credential or local machine path.

    REQ-VISUALIZATION-007 now reads IMPLEMENTED in docs/spec/implementation_status.csv with ISSUE 496 and PR 499. Its MERGE_COMMIT is intentionally blank and is filled by scripts/backfill_merge_commits.py from the squash commit above; that is the normal path and not an outstanding gate on this Issue.

    This Issue closed automatically on merge with reason COMPLETED, verified after confirming #499 is in state MERGED. Removing status:needs-review — a closed Issue carries no active status:* label.
