Strange files created in workspace root

From time to time when I save, two empty files are created in my workspace root, and automatically opened:

• --log
• ms-dotnettools.csharp=info

Those are filenames.

Why? This started within the last month.

That is odd. Those are the arguments that you would pass to VSCode to set the C# output channel's loglevel from the commandline. How are you launching VSCode and has that changed recently?

No I didn't change anything...

Only thing I noticed - for an unrelated bug in the current c# extension release, in a different issue, someone from the team asked to change the logging from info to trace. It started when I did that. I've since changed it back to info.

I'll wait for the next full release and see if it fixes it... glad it's "just me", probably just a Heisenbug! 😄

If you are passing --log ms-dotnettools.csharp:info when launching code, it makes me wonder if the CLI is interpreting as trying to open two files named --log and ms-dotnettools.csharp=info.

No I just use code . I don't use those flags anywhere. I searched my codebase and didn't find anything. Weird. Maybe it's a buggy extension.

I'll investigate again after the next release.

With the latest version, the same thing happens.

I reproduced the issue to my git tool (Lazygit) opening a file at a specific line. It uses /usr/bin/zsh -c "code --reuse-window --goto --"/home/username/work/Foo.cs":964". However as you can see it does not send extra switches. So it happens when I do that, but that's not where those switches come from.

I thought maybe there's a script which intercepts the executable, but the code script seems to be the default one and doesn't do anything weird.

I hope someone else runs into this issue someday - please tell me what's your environment and how you fixed it?
