Issue Subcategory:

Form field name has extra information

User Experience:

Screen reader users may have difficulty understanding or completing the field when its name includes unrelated text

Repro Steps:

Open Maui sample template app > Tasks> Observed the issue.

Actual Result:

When navigating to the Tasks checkbox list using a screen reader, the screen reader initially announces the irrelevant text "Microsoft.Maui.Controls.Platform.ItemTemplateContext" for every checkbox item. Upon pressing the Tab key again, the screen reader correctly announces the checkbox label and its state

Expected Result:

Screen reader should directly announce the checkbox's accessible name and state and not unnecessary information.

How to Fix:

Keep the field's accessible name focused on the field label. Move instructions, requirements, and error text to descriptions associated with aria-describedby instead of including them in the name.

Environment details:

Application Name: .NET MAUI SDKs
OS: Windows 11 Enterprise Insider Preview 26300.8276

I’m unable to reproduce the exact reported issue. Could you please share some additional details, such as where you obtained the project? For example, is it from the https://github.com/dotnet/maui-samples repository, or did you create the sample using one of the project templates?

Additionally, could you share the Microsoft.Maui.Controls version used in your project and the .NET SDK version currently installed on your system? This information will help us investigate the issue further and resolve it more quickly. @PoojaNamde

@Ahamed-Ali I have downloaded this template from https://github.com/jfversluis/maui/actions/runs/29500587623 which was provided by Jakub Florkowski.

I am using 11.0.100-preview.6.26359.118 .NET SDK version and Microsoft.Maui.Controls

Thank you for the report and the investigation details. We are closing this as completed: the Windows template TaskView root now has task-title semantics, addressing the exact screen-reader announcement of ItemTemplateContext in the Tasks checkbox scenario.

Supporting evidence: #37421 (merged into inflight/current).

This records the merged source change; it does not imply that the fix is present in every released .NET MAUI package.

If you can still reproduce the reported behavior in a build that includes the linked change, please comment here with the exact version and reproduction details so we can reopen and investigate. The existing reproduction and discussion remain available; a new issue is not required.
