How to pass verbs as arguments?

but how to pass an argument in DragonFruit parameter binding?

That won`t work I get an error because Verbs are not supported right?

DragonFruit doesn't currently support verbs (which is the same as a Command in System.CommandLine's API).

The question has been around for a while (#128). @KathleenDollard has been experimenting on a more feature-complete API that can address this, which you can get a feel for here: https://github.com/KathleenDollard/command-line-api-starfruit/blob/0422ca7021f7a03fb83fe1f2fa3339e91d2b227e/StarFruit/Program.cs#L13

ah so System.CommandLine support verbs? couldn`t read anything about it... have you any link to the verb documentation please?

A subcommand in System.CommandLine is the same thing as a verb. You can nest commands inside other commands: https://github.com/dotnet/command-line-api/wiki/How-To#add-a-subcommand. Each command can have its own distinct handler.

do I have to create 3 subcommands and if yes how do these subcommands resolve in the rootCommand `s handler ?

Someone should tell the API team that users do not search for subcommand but 'verb' instead...

To create subcommands, you use the Command class. Enums are supported for option or argument values (for example, you could switch on the bound enum value inside your handler), but a Command, in order to be able to be invoked, must have a handler.

So either of these approaches could work:

var root = new RootCommand
{
    new Argument<MyVerbs>()
};
root.Handler = CommandHandler.Create<MyVerbs>(verb => 
    verb switch =>
    {
        MyVerbs.Add => 1,
        MyVerbs.Update => 2,
        MyVerbs.Delete => 3
    });

... or ...

var root = new RootCommand
{
    new Command("Add")
    {
        Handler = CommandHandler.Create(() => 1)
    },
    new Command("Update")
    {
        Handler = CommandHandler.Create(() => 2)
    },
    new Command("Delete")
    {
        Handler = CommandHandler.Create(() => 3)
    }
};
