The master branch no longer exists, but it would not make much sense to show the badge of branch 3.0.x while on branch 2.0.x, just like it did not make much sense to show the badge of branch master.
It replaces ocramius/package-versions and allows to use Composer 2 and still have features equivalent to that package on old versions of PHP.
We are using a plugin that requires the old API. Upgrading that plugin means upgrading our coding standard library, and the new versions of that library requires PHP 7.2
