[Feature]: Have sunshine installed in the images #1761
Description
Activity
Hi, thanks for the idea! I never heard of Sunshine, however I really doubt it will be more performant/responsive than RDP.
From a quick look at their project page it seems like their software encodes a video-stream, which can be performant if you have GPU acceleration that does the encoding. However, this container has no GPU support, so Sunshine will have to do software-encoding. And I do not expect this to be faster or better than RDP (but I have not tried it, so correct me if Im wrong).
Another problem is that the container downloads/installs stock .iso images from the Microsoft server. To add pre-installed software will require extra downloads, and the .iso will not be unmodified/stock anymore after installation. I expect 90 percent of the users would not want pre-installed gaming software (in a container not even ment for gaming).
Do you agree with me or what are your thoughts?

From what I know (I might be incorrect about the technical) Sunshine is more performant if you have GPU acceleration yes but in my experience it's also more performant than RDP, and has less issues than RDP (RDP has a tendency to serve corrupted frames when load is high/connection is slow).
Another problem is that the container downloads/installs stock .iso images from the Microsoft server. To add pre-installed software will require extra downloads, and the .iso will not be unmodified/stock anymore after installation.
I did think about that which is why I said having it as "an alternative image or a environment variable" is a way, and I do agree with you about it making it a modified OS... but you're installing the qemu guest agent and qemu drivers which are technically "modification on the stock OS"

To be clear, it's not "gaming software", it's made for low latency and high framerate/resolution which is better for gaming, but it also benefits everything else
Side note: I'd like to thank you for making this container, and thank you even more for the Samba container that I've been using for multiple years now, been really useful!

/dev/drior
Hello, it would be really nice to have sunshine ( https://app.lizardbyte.dev/Sunshine/ / https://github.com/LizardByte/Sunshine ) installed in the images by default, since it's a lot more performant/responsive than RDP.
Having it by default (or even in an alternative image or a environment variable) would make this project much quicker to setup for use with sunshine, and might even make it usable for people wanting to use it to play games.
It wouldn't require much other than more opened ports:
