Failed to load eclipse jdt formatter

Hi Team,

In our company, we don't have open access to internet. We can use Maven Central Repository (tbh. our Artifactory acts as proxy for Maven Central), but that's all.

For some reasno, when trying to use eclipse formatter for Java in maven, we are getting error:

Execution default-cli of goal com.diffplug.spotless:spotless-maven-plugin:2.38.0:apply failed: java.io.IOException: Failed to load eclipse jdt formatter: java.lang.RuntimeException: java.netSocketTimeoutException: connect timed out -> [Help 1]

Is there any chance that we can use Eclipse formatter which will be loaded from Maven Central?

The other option is this needs to respect our internal corporate proxy settings when going to the Internet.

I'm facing the same issue with some utility that uses spotless.
In my case I can interact with our network administrators and discuss about proxy-allowed hosts.
Pardon my ignorance, but how can I determine URL that spotless trying connect to? Error log does not contain information about URL

@nedtwigg This issue was closed as completed, but I still cannot get the eclipse formatter working in spotless. It is failing when trying to contact download.eclipse.org, which is not accessible from my development environment. I am using the latest version of the spotless gradle plugin (6.23.3). Perhaps this was only fixed for the maven plugin and not the gradle plugin?

Is there a way to configure spotless (gradle) to use a maven repository to download the eclipse jars?

Since spotless-maven-plugin version 2.35.0, the plugin needs to connect to download.eclipse.com for downloading dependencies. We have a company artifactory (which loads itself from public repositories and scans for malicious code etc.) and our ci-cd-pipeline allows only to load dependencies over this and no other repositories. So i get the following error during the pipeline run:

Is there a way to fix that problem?

As noted in README, you can also solve this problem by setting up a mirror repository in proxy. If you have not tried this yet, I suggest you do so before watching #1996.

{{VERSION}} is the version of Eclipse you are using, for example 4.26.

If you are creating a mirror in the Nexus Repository, set “Type” to raw-proxy and “Remote Storage” to https://download.eclipse.org/.
The {{MIRROR_URL}} would be http://your-network/nexus/repository/download-eclipse-org/updates/{{VERSION}}/, if your repository name is download-eclipse-org and you host Nexus Repository at http://your-network/nexus/repository.
