Hello,
I use purple-facebook as spectrum2 transport for Prosody and contrary to hangout transport my contacts photos do not show up. Is there any easy fix such as configuration option ? I am on Debian Jessie server and use purple-facebook from repository, if this matters.
thanks
Jiří

can you please check that avatars are shows up directly in Pidgin without spectrum?

I am not sure if I am testing the right way, I installed pidgin client on the server and run it remotely. Added account of "facebook type" (not FB XMPP) and voilá - icons are there. So if this approach tested the right plugin, the problem has to be in between the plugin and spectrum2 as spectrum2 itself presents avatars from Google hangouts plugin correctly.

Can you please check spectrum's backend.log for any messages regarding avatars?

Hi,
actually there is nothing about "Avatar" but few lines with "icon", some referring to /var/lib/spectrum2/fb.mydomain.tld/icons directory. In that directory the avatars/icons are stored - but they are not used by spectrum2. Compared to google transport, accounts.xml contains only:

<?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8' ?>
<account version='1.0'/>

and nothing else. No other signigicant differences found. So still looks like problem in communication between your library and spectrum.
