Google translate removes spaces around math

Not sure whether this is more the fault of decker or Google Translate, but if I use Google translate, it tries to translate from German, and surrounds text near math with font tags that remove a space:

Even if this is Google Translate being dumb, perhaps there's some Decker workaround?

This seems to be a common issue with all of google's translation offerings and seemingly some other google utilities for decades now. I guess the translation tool identifies there being no "letter" behind the if because the math-inline span follows and therefore just guesses it can remove the space. As this is not something triggered by our own codebase the solutions i could find are not applicable to us. I also do not see it in our responsibility to add css rules for a non-standard browser feature, but I do have to say that it might be useful to consider the average user being able to use it.

The option I see is to add CSS rules that add margins to span or font elements but I can also see this breaking the look and feel of a lot of other things at the same time, though that needs to be tested.
