Darktable never exits for gimp thumbnail generation #18614

Description

Is there an existing issue for this?

  • I checked and did not find my issue in the already reported ones

Describe the bug

I have been experimenting with the GIMP integration by running darktable from the command line with the GIMP commands. I have noticed that the thumbnail generation works (in that the thumbnail is generated) but that darktable does not then exit.

Steps to reproduce

  1. run the GIMP thumbnail generation command, for instance
    a. darktable --gimp thumb bird.jpg 120
  2. darktable responds
0.0000 [dt starting]
darktable --gimp thumb bird.jpg 120
    1.2553 [export_job] exported to `/tmp/darktable_7KNZ32/thumb.jpg'
<<<gimp
/tmp/darktable_7KNZ32/thumb.jpg
800 600
gimp>>>
  1. the tmp file exists and looks correct
  2. however darktable does not then exit (I end up having to kill it)

Expected behavior

Darktable should exit after the thumbnail is generated

Please provide additional context if applicable. You can attach files too, but might need to rename to .txt or .zip

I have tried multiple files and got the same result every time. As a small example, it fails with the attached jpg, but note that raw files show the same behaviour for me:
