Thank you for sharing this!!
I love these worlds ...
for decades now. <3
I am so excited to see how Web3D Standards and open source software keep these metaverse destinations live!
... making interactive 3D experiences accessible for all on the Web to produce and to enjoy!
Maybe we bring back the VRML Ring ? ;->
with best regards,
npolys

Subject: [create3000/x_ite] My X3D worlds using X_ITE (Discussion #213)
Hi All,
I want to show off my work in X3D using X_ITE. You can see my worlds in my site... https://vr.alexllobet.com/<url>
I started building these worlds in 1999 and 2001. But after a few years, browser plugins were no longer used so I couldn't show off my work. I eventually had to take my site down.
A couple of years ago I discovered X_ITE. I tested it with my old worlds and to my great surprise, it worked! I just needed a couple of tweaks here and there and my sites were working not only as I originally intended but even better and much faster.
I had to relearn VRML and converted my files to X3D for better compatibility. I also had to learn new 3D software, since the old one I was using was extremely limited. I'm using Blender to update my work.
My first world was space ships from my favorite movie 2001: a space odyssey. I built the Space Station 5, interior of the space station, the Discovery ship, and inside the centrifuge. Here are some screenshots...

In 2001 I built the World Trade Center of NYC...

Recently I built part of the Parthenon and added it to the Acropolis I found on Wikipedia...

I also tested photogrammetry of a sculpture near me called Thrive...

This is what I have so far and have quite a few other things in the works.
Another thing that's really great is that now X_ITE allows you to explore X3D worlds with a VR headset!
This is just a hobby for me and I hope that my works helps bring attention to X3D and X_ITE as a great way to bring 3D to the web.
I think it's much better and easier to work with than with other forms of presenting 3D on the web such as threejs or Unity or Unreal.
Thanks for reading. Hope you like my works!
Alex
