fix(tunnel): ensure the frpc binary is executable before spawn - #849
Conversation
Published npm tarballs and some package stores drop the execute bit on the per-platform frpc binary, so spawn(frpc) failed with EACCES and the dev tunnel would not start until the user ran chmod +x manually. resolveFrpcBinary now sets any missing execute bits (best-effort, no-op on Windows) for the override, platform-package, and download-cache paths alike.

Changesfrpc executable resolution
Estimated code review effort: 2 (Simple) | ~10 minutes Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to The fix restores executability for tunnel binaries, but its permission handling may grant group and other users execute access to a binary that was previously restricted. The PR is mergeable with explicit owner awareness or a follow-up to preserve intended access restrictions. Possibly related PRs

Greptile SummaryThe PR repairs missing execute permissions on resolved non-Windows
Confidence Score: 5/5The PR appears safe to merge with no actionable correctness or security issues identified. The executable-bit repair preserves existing resolution precedence, skips Windows, retains existing permission bits, and is applied consistently before every resolved binary path is returned. Preserve the binary's existing access scope.
perms | 0o111 adds execute permission for all classes. For a 0o700 binary, including a CORSAIR_FRP_BIN override, it changes the mode to 0o711 and allows group and other users to execute it.
Derive execute bits from the existing permission scope and add a regression test for 0o700.

What
The per-platform
frpcbinary can lose its executable bit (npm tarballextraction and some package stores don't preserve it), so
spawn(frpc)failswith
EACCESand the dev tunnel won't start until the user runschmod +xmanually.
Fix
resolveFrpcBinary()now ensures the resolved binary is executable — it addsany missing execute bits (best-effort, no-op on Windows) for the
CORSAIR_FRP_BINoverride, the platform optional-dependency package, and thedownload cache. One runtime guard covers all six platform packages without
republishing them.
Test
Added a case to
tests/frpc-binary.test.ts: a resolved binary with mode0o644comes back with the execute bit set. Suite green.
