Feature request: prebuilt packages for primary operating systems

I don't have any hard empirical evidence, but if there was a repository of pre-built libs for the major systems (OS X versions, Windows versions, Ubuntu, Alpine?) then builds would be fully parallel downloads instead of having serial build dependencies, so some builds that take about half an hour currently could take only minutes.

This is done by homebrew to speed up installs.

This would be nice, but also quite tricky I think. It's hard to know what system-specific details are being incorporated when building a package. Also there are options that affect how snapshot packages get compiled.

I think adding any "options" would just default to --from-source or something. Otherwise it'd just be too hard to implement ... some packages would have to be built 2^n times where n is large.
