The problem you're encountering is due to the lack of support for java.time.Duration on devices running Android API level 25 and below. These versions of Android do not fully support Java 8 features.

We’ve investigated the issue more thoroughly and identified a conflict between the Chartboost SDK and the Yandex Ads SDK.

The issue is caused by the play-services-ads-identifier:18.2.0 update, which introduced the use of the java.time.Duration class. This class is not available on Android API levels 25 and below unless Java 8+ API desugaring is enabled.

Chartboost SDK

Most ads SDKs handle exceptions related to play-services-ads-identifier library. However, the Chartboost SDK causes a crash in this case.

Yandex Ads dependencies

Most ads SDKs use version 18.1.0 or lower of play-services-ads-identifier, which do not rely on the Duration class. The only exception is the Yandex Ads SDK (AppMetrica), which depends on version 18.2.0.

Force 18.1.0 version

The most reliable solution would be to explicitly force the use of play-services-ads-identifier:18.1.0, ensuring that retrieving the Advertising ID does not lead to runtime exceptions on any Android API level. Add the following lines to your app-level module build.gradle:

We are confident that the play-services-ads-identifier library version can be safely downgraded, as 18.2.0 update did not introduce any changes to the library’s API.

A more complex alternative would be to add Java 8+ API desugaring support in your build. Please refer to the Android Developer documentation on Java 8+ API desugaring support and follow the setup instructions.

Future changes to work around the issue

To avoid runtime crashes, we plan to enforce a build error in future releases of the CAS Chartboost Adapter if the project does use version 18.2.0 of play-services-ads-identifier.

Update:
We decided not to enforce a build error in case of a version conflict so that applications with a minimum API level higher than 25 wouldn’t notice the issue.

The build is expected to fail with the following error:

We are working with the Chartboost SDK developers to handle the exception.

We have also added a rule to CAS Gradle Plugin 4.1.2 to force version 18.1.0 of theplay-services-ads-identifier library if the app use a minimum API level of 25 or lower.

The CAS 4.3.0 update includes updated SDKs for Chartboost and Yandex Ads. We’ve observed that Yandex Ads has downgraded the play-services-ads-identifier dependency to version 18.1.0. As a result, all mediation dependencies now use version 18.1.0 or lower, and no additional resolutionStrategy are required.
