edit_node: flat inputSchema shorthand auto-marks every property required #22

Description

@TenSpy-ai

Summary

Passing edit_node a flat property map as inputSchema (the shorthand form) makes the server-side normalizer emit required: [<every property>]. A schema designed with only one required field came back with all three marked required. Runs omitting any field then fail instantly (<1s, pre-LLM, 0 credits): Node "…" is missing required inputs: <field>.

Reproduction (verified 2026-08-06)

  1. edit_node an agent node with a flat inputSchema map of 3 properties, intending 1 required.
  2. Read the node back → required contains all 3.
  3. Trigger a run omitting an intended-optional field → instant missing required inputs failure.

Expected

The shorthand should mark nothing required (or accept a required list alongside), or the auto-require behavior should be documented on the tool. Workaround: always pass the full {type: "object", properties: {…}, required: […]} form.

Built/observed via the Clay plugin's workflow MCP (edit_node) + CLI on Claude Code.
