@classy-giraffe does refind support LUKS1/2? AFAIK it isn't capable of booting from an encrypted boot partition.
Not storing the kernel on the boot partition makes snapshots much less useful in order to recover your system from a kernel issue. On the other hand LUKS without Argon2 is not secure to begin with, so you would still need grub-improved-luks2-git from the AUR. I've personally switched to zfsbootmenu with zfs native encryption but I have to backport compatibility patches in order to stay compatible with the latest kernels.

https://github.com/openSUSE/sdbootutil openSUSE made one based on systemd-boot.
