Summary
Currently, as a developer, you are able to use the itemToElement function to embed icons into items. However, you still need to use the itemToString function alongside in order to get it to appear once selected. See #11811
This is a both a design flaw, because the selected item doesn't match without the icon. Additionally, on smaller screens, we want the option to select base on icons alone. Having the ability to visually match the selected item will be wonderful.
