LinUwUx is a Linux compatibility runtime for Windows games running through Wine or Proton. It keeps the CPU profile, Windows shared system data, clocks, signal handling, and Wine environment consistent across the game and its child processes.
The runtime is written in Rust and distributed as a 64-bit preload library, LinUwUx.so. The linuwux wrapper loads it before the normal game command. LinUwUx does not replace Proton or modify game files and prefixes.
These pages cover the Rust rewrite introduced in v26.09.14. If you used the old C runtime, start with Updating and migration.
- Check the host and runner prerequisites.
- Install LinUwUx.
- Configure your game in Steam, Lutris, Heroic, or Faugus / UMU.
For Steam, the basic per-game launch option is:
linuwux %command%
Valve Proton, Proton Experimental, GE-Proton, and UMU-managed builds should work with the current runtime. Compatibility still depends on the game, runner, and host configuration.
