Description
When you import a Chrome or MSedge profile (etc) into brave, it creates a new profile instead of importing to the current profile. Typically 99% of users import for use as their primary profile. This problem will occur no matter what if you have more than one profile.
Problem begins when you right click the brave taskbar icon and open a new private window. This opens the initial non default profile, instead of the default profile one uses. Problem 1. no extensions, history, or bookmarks are available here.
Here is where is where the problem gets worse.
After opening a private window, it forces the standard non-private window to use the non-default profile. One must manually switch back to the default profile. The standard window should force the private window to use a specific profile, not the other way around.
Incredibly annoying behavior, not seen in edge or other chrome browsers.
The only way around this is to 1. use only one profile period, no importing or secondary profiles. And 2. avoid opening a private window via taskbar, open brave in a standard window, then open a private window from there... which takes unnecessary time and uses more resources, AND you cannot keep the private window open, and close the standard window without losing your tabs. Again, more wasted resources.
The best, most simple solution would be for Private Browsing to use the users selected profile when loaded from the windows taskbar. Another would be an options menu to force brave to use a user specified profile for 'private windows'.
Steps to Reproduce:
- Install brave
- Import a profile from another browser, or just create a second profile as your primary
- Use that imported or secondary profile as your primary profile
- Open private tab from windows taskbar, note which profile it is using then close it
- Open standard Brave Window, note which profile it is using
Expected? Taskbar Private window uses selected profile. Standard window does not force users to re-select their profile every single time they open a taskbar private browsing window.
What happens? Taskbar Private window does not use selected profile. Taskbar Private window forces standard window to use a nonstandard profile. Brave standard window forces users to re-select their default profile every time they open a private window from taskbar.
