Describe the problem you are having

(update; added logs )

hwaccel_args: preset-vaapi was working great, except for a distorted image issue ive been having for many frigate versions (and on both a 9th gen based optiplex micro and my current 12th gen based optiplex micro - i described it here: #13146 ) - i only bring that up as the reason i wanted to try QSV hardware encode/decode. (it didnt resolve that issue, but i discovered something else):

when trying QSV (hwaccel_args: preset-intel-qsv-h264) on frigate 14.1 (and tried latest non supported dev versions such as 176af55 and others) , i kept seeing several errors (and no image) but mostly;
video_get_buffer: image parameters invalid

all of my 12x cams are Axis cameras (either artpec-7 (one generation behind current) or artpec-8 based (current gen)). will provide more details below, but after finding this post:

the fix for my setup was the same, ie on each axis camera i went into plain config, and enabled "PS Enabled" (details on why, are in that ffmpeg bug report above).
steps to enable this (on axis firmware 11.x):

prior to finding the axis/rtsp issue - when inside the frigate docker container (v 14.1 and the dev versions), i was able to successfully run qsv based ffmpeg commands of: decode, encode and transcode, and confirmed via watching top and intel-gpu-top (ie was really using qsv hardware) NOT against the rtsp stream though, against video files.

Apologies if I'm posting this in the wrong place, however I know a lot of people have had qsv decoding issues (and vaapi is fine to use in place of) so I thought that this may help add some information. (i assume it may effect more than just axis cameras).

thanks, i actually found some error logs i had saved in a notepad++ window, and i just now updated the original post with them (ie gives some context on the versions you referenced also).

thanks for posting this, in general QSV will be much improved in frigate 0.15 as yesterday we have updated the intel drivers and are now using ffmpeg 7
