@satgit62 I did it! It's working on Linux now. Another happy kernel hacked (Ubuntu 24.04): 
So far even OBS doesnt support P010 for grabbers on Linux. But what about users? If we tell them to recompile Kernel most of them will probably panic... It's not difficult but it loads the system more than LUT calibration (and there's even no progress bar ;-) ) Maybe I will prepare precompiled modules for RPi's... |

Hi, this is great news from you. 👍 I'm glad you found a way to get this P010 running on Linux. Yes, recompiling the kernel is not everyone's cup of tea and many can't do it themselves. I hardly know anyone around me who still has a PC at home, and if they do, they certainly don't have Linux. Most young people these days only need a cell phone. Of course, most users will be happy if this is integrated into a build for RPI. |

No, the grabber is fine. The bright luminance signal, when scaled by 1.5, inverts over the scale and becomes dark, just like chroma, but the effect is different. |

Also Ezcap 269 has some non-standard brithness/contrast,hue settings on default if I remember correctly. Similar story to ms2109. You can try to set them into a middle of the scale and test again. |

Oh, did pass-through the signal through the Ezcap 269 to UGreen to remove HDCP? That wont work, Ezcap 269 has very limited pass-through capabilities and many format/refresh rate/colordeptch are not allowed. But Ezcoo can handle it. |

I fixed the problem and additionally found a bug that incorrectly reads the nits brightness during P010 calibration. This explains why the LUT causes flip-over of bright colors (white to black color) in the video material, which was not the case during calibration. But there is a difference: for the same test material Elgato produces material with a brightness of 250nits and UGreen gaves 200nits, which is the same as defined in the video file. I don't know why this is the case but it probably has no side effects for Elgato. Since the gain function for P010 has changed, it will result in the old LUTs for P010 being incompatible. That's why I want to test it more before committing changes with Ugreen and Elgato to be sure that I have selected it correctly because there is some (rather trivial) mathematics there ;) |

Now I found that the gain function is too aggresive for Elgato (UGreen is OK) :-( I will have to lower it because the white color is disturbed in the Elgato logs. Nevertheless it should be a cosmetic change but new version of HyperHDR will invalidate old LUTs for P010. |

Logs look fine, thank you. I spent all day today testing different gain functions to find the optimal one for both grabbers. I think I found a good solution, but as I mentioned you will now have to do the LUT calibration again. Installer: BTW setting up-scaling chroma in madvr to bilinear improved result by 50% - less artifacts. YUV limited results are much better than full scale range test mp4 for P010. |

During calibration this setting is completely ignored: you can have it enabled or disabled in HyperHDR, doesnt matter. With one exception: flatbuffers must have it enabled in its settings if you use external NV12 stream. After the calibration tone mapping is enabled globally automatically. |

Related Pull-Request has been merged so it's master branch now I think there is still a room for improvements for UGreen, at least for the calibration. The gain function is OK so I wont change it anymore that caused LUT incompatibility in the past. On my system the noise is much higher so probably it depends on the player. BTW do you have a possibility to display and capture in HyperHDR this image in HDR (for example in the web browser on the source)? |

Hagibis support doesn't exist, maybe one of ezcap firmware will be compatible. Ugreen P010 capable grabber uses custom own product/vendor id so it may be more difficult, but I have no issue with their grabber firmware: P10 looks great! |

Hi @awawa-dev - I've just picked up a Ugreen 25173, so hoping to get this set up similarly to the above, but not sure how to install the v21 alpha on my raspberry pi. For calibration on Shield it's better to use default Shield player I think. On other systems I found VLC rather problematic for HDR content. Of course, there is no guarantee that the result will be much better or different, but the logs should show that. |

In traditional grabbers the HDR video signal is packed in the range of 16-144 (on a scale of 0-255 => 8 bits) which means we lose a significant part of the information needed to reconstruct it back to full range. It can be done although it leads to some quantization visible in the MS2130 screenshots in PR about calibration. What's worse grabbers usually treat this signal as SDR and apply some filters/built-in LUTs which further distort it. In P010 we have the much more detailed x4 range if I remember correctly 64-576 (on a scale of 0-1023 => 10 bits => thats's why P010). |

I found a bug in YUV limited detection during calibration and ELgato (and possible Hagabis) for some reason is using full range for HDR P010. Fixed it in the latest commit. I dont have UGreen anymore (it used YUV limited range) to check if the calibration is working fina also for this grabber. Please re-calibrate P010 LUT in the free time after installing new HyperHDR version. |

@davet1234 I see in your previous logs that your grabber also probably used full range incorrectly recognized as limited range (not 100% sure about it). Better to re-calibrate it again using latest installer from the master branch (P010 feature is already merged).

What do you suggest for a P010 right now, @awawa-dev ? I just ordered https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0D4LV836Z but it seems that this one has limitations with P010 (but it should be "raw"). I don't understand completly what you mean by "it used YUV limited range". Thx for a hint. |

This is a complicated topic and depends on the video source/player/ gfx driver settings/processing: https://kodi.wiki/view/Video_levels_and_color_space#Limited_vs_Full_Video_Levels Anyway after this fix HyperHDR will correctly detect the YUV range on your system during calibration(this was a message for users who helped my with testing P010 support). I've been using UGreen for a few weeks now intensively in P010 with my RPi4 after it replaced ELgato and I have no problems with it. |

It may indeed be damaged, but there may be something wrong with the RPi or its power supply (the power supply is not original). Do you have anything else connected to its ports? The safest thing to do is return the grabber if you can, although you could also try on a PC. |

Yeah, I got my UGREEN 25173 and connected it with the right cable, so I got P010 as a selecable source. I don't know if I did something wrong, but I get e.g. different levels with white: @awawa-dev got: I don't get 0 for WHITE_0 and not 16 (for limited), but 21??? I use an appleTV 3.0 with 4K HDR enabled, ezcoo SP12H21 splitter and played the .mp4 file with infuse for playback. |

Each setup is different that why performing the calibration is important. On my setup (Windows 10 + gfx 12 bits RGB + madVR full range) I've got also full range in the grabber raw captured stream (Y = 0). On your setup you have limited range that's why also WHITE_16 is lower than mine for the same test file brightness ~200nits (both live in different Y scales 0-255 vs 16-235 but they relatively point to the ~same source Y value). I think the subject of limited/full range was quite well explained in the kodi wiki and I can not add more in this topic. |

Grabber with a loop usually like Ugreen 25173 usually wont replace HDMI splitter: there are many niuances that you must consider like support for HDCP or Dolby Vision (LLDV). If you dont plan to use P010 then maybe choose much cheaper ms2130 (probably you will have to upgrade the firmware).
I haven't heard of any loop grabber or splitter that supports Dolby Vision, except for Ezcoo splitters (and only LLDV) |

Due to licensing restrictions, currently no modern HDMI 2.0 grabber will allow you to capture HDCP-protected signal and it is not always possible to disable it (like in AMD drivers). RPi 4 will be just fine. I use it myself with this grabber. DV is prioprietary format and thanks to some EDID tricks only some products of HDFury and Ezcoo can handle it to some extend (LLDV). |

I use the EZCOO EZ-SP12H2 to process DRM protected video content with the Ugreen 25173 and I am very happy with it. The Ugreen 25173 alone probably can't process the Dolby Vision/DRM content even from the hdfury diva. |

For me? Nothing. As @satgit62 politely reminded you, you need to calibrate the LUT for p010, otherwise it definitely won't work (and it definitely won't work for standard Dolby Vision). I wrote about this back in May, so I'm starting to wonder if I'm talking to a bot. If calibration fails or stream doesnt work for simply YUV (after you delete all LUT in your home folder after failed calibration), you have a problem with your splitter and capture devices. And just because one capture device works doesn't mean the other will. Tke keyword: EDID handshaking and HDMI capture device version. Elgato and Ugreen are HDMI 2.0, the MS2130 is HDMI 1.4, so the splitter may handle them differently. IT'S UP TO YOU TO CORRECTLY CONFIGURE DIVA, AS IT HAS ITS OWN HDR TONE MAPPING AND A DAMN LOT OF OTHER OPTIONS. |

This was done months ago so just wondering if there is an update on the process for the UGREEN 25173? My PI 4b is not even flashed yet and the LEDs are ready but, not on the TV yet, so starting fresh. Scored a 25175 for $50 USD and thought that was a great deal, tried it on Windows, works fine. I JUST downloaded RaspberryPiOS-P010-hdr-os-image-bookworm-aarch64.img.xz from the release of 21.. Does the LEDs need to be setup before calibration and a little confused by the things here, is there clear easy to do directions calibrate LUT process? |

$50 is a great deal for this grabber. I have been using UGREEN 25173 continuously in P010 mode for many months and I am very pleased with it, much more than with Elgato, although Elgato worked without P010 at that time.
No, calibrations is for the video processing, not LEDs. Only final video grabber AND movie player AND tv (AND optionally HDMI splitter) are required: if you change this chain, you should consider re-calibration |

Ok, cool, I'll setup and not do any calibration. Only thing in my mix, it comes from a splitter, that is the primary source, it goes into an EZ-SP12H28S splitter (the model up from the splitter everyone uses here, I had too many issues with the smaller one, and this one has been flawless, worth the extra in my eyes.). |

But for P010 you must have any calibrated LUT for P010, even without the LEDs connected. The default LUT wont work for P010. Then if your video setup has changes like I mentioned you should perform re-calibration. |

Ok, confused a little on the process. From what I see here, trying to piece things together.
Edit: just found this. This helped clear up questions, sorry I missed it. Ok, setup, run calibration, kick off video and as long as everything goes ok, done, if not post here, right? Also on the resolution page, should I set 120hz as I will be using gaming on this setup, or leave it at 60hz? P4b with 2gb, enough power for 120hz? Looking forward to finally having an accurate and quick setup. As always, thanks for your help. Videos on YouTube are almost worthless compared to your help here. |

120hz is for LEDs, not P010 capturing format, right? Then do not go above 100Hz because it's pointless: depending on the OS delay timer has a minimal precision 10ms and we use it for the LEDs rendering sync. Movies are around 25Hz if we want to put a intermediate smoothing frame then it should be rendering resolution 50Hz but it's not a rule as its depending on your grabber settings (increasing grabber capturing resolution above 25Hz wont bring new details but it'll lower latency). increasing the LED refresh rate generates a small load on the CPU but significantly more on your LED driver. And whether it will be able to render so many frames depends on the driver and the number of LEDs. For HyperSerial and HyperSPI there are procedures described here in the wiki and on the blog on how to find the limit. On the other hand P010 has a huge appetite for CPU compared to other formats. Hello Awawa Today I wanted to test the P010 grabbing, as I have a Elgato HD60X. I remember you said that the newer ones have some kind of flaw, my HD60X is the first one that was released, the older model. I managed to get the P010 grabbing to run ony my RPI5 and calibrated all three modes. When I look at the live preview, the image does look absolutely identical in all regards to PicCap. How is this possible, I thought P010 was the ultimate solution for HDR formats? I still have the Maximum Luminance error and even the calibration scores are higher than PicCap. Does the old HD60X has the same flaw as the newer ones? I was heavily disappointed by P010 because I can't see any difference to what PicCap offers. There has to be something I missed |

I returned the new model a long time ago, so there won't be any more reviews from me about the new HD60x. The Piccap error is higher than the P010 calibration factor, and besides, the narrow quantization in Piccap obviously bites in the butt compared to what we get in P010. |

Recently, grabbers offering the P010 format have started to appear on the market en masse, which until now was reserved for premium grabbers such as the Elgato HD60X, offering sensational color quality of captured HDR material. Theoretically, the grabber model should not affect the captured video because we receive it in a raw state in P010 stream, but we will verify this. The cost of these grabbers is about 25-40% of the cost of Elgato, more expensive than the ms2130, but they have a built-in HDMI splitter. However, do not expect miracles from such splitters, e.g. CEC support or recording with HDCP enabled or EDID modification for LLDV.

macOS does not support P010 for UVC at the moment (confirmed by Elgato support).
Linux requires applying a patch for the Kernel because P010 is initially not supported either: For RPi there is already patched OS available.
