How to add AdminThemeBundle without depending on bower?

The readme says: "So, there is no longer a strict requirement for bower and/or assetic."
I'm trying to get rid of bower dependency.

It's however unclear what needs to be done in order to simply use the bundled resources rather than building them.

I've tried removing bower path from parameters.yml, and keep getting error running:
Avanzu\\AdminThemeBundle\\Composer\\ScriptHandler::fetchThemeVendors

The error I get when running composer install is:
