Notes

The AsyncAPI community meeting covered updates on conference preparations for the London and Bangalore editions, the mentorship program wrap-up event, documentation reorganization, and the completion of Q2 issues. Marketing updates included social media performance metrics, upcoming conference campaigns, and plans for a new webinar series launching in September with Lukasz as the first speaker. The team also discussed finding a unified platform for all AsyncAPI events that could handle registrations and applications for various community activities, including the mentorship program and hackathons.

Community Meeting Preparation and Setup

Azeez hosted the community meeting in place of Tuli and was joined by Bami, who initially could not use his camera due to electricity issues and construction noise nearby, and Anton. Azeez waited for five minutes to see if more people would join the meeting before starting the stream, which was confirmed to be live on YouTube. After introductions, Azeez prepared to share the meeting agenda on screen.

AsyncAPI Conference Planning Updates

Azeez provided updates on the conference working group, highlighting preparations for the London and Bangalore editions, with Thulie working to secure more speaker slots for Bangalore beyond the initial six announced. Thulie discussed plans for the 2026 conference, aiming to combine elements from previous years, including dedicated AsyncAPI tracks and more intimate events. Bami explained they were developing standardized keynote slides with non-technical AsyncAPI information for newcomers, while Thulie shared that the online conference preparations were underway with designs being reviewed and a call for more talk submissions. Azeez announced the 2024 mentorship program wrap-up event scheduled for Friday at 3 PM UTC, where mentors and mentees would share their experiences.

Mentorship Program and Content Updates

Thulie announced that the mentorship program report was out and encouraged everyone to read the blog about the behind-the-scenes work and attend the celebration on Friday. She also shared that the community reorganization was complete and that the content bucket now had content, acknowledging the efforts of Mr. Gold, contributors, mentees, and the animation team for making it possible to display the community repo content on the website. Azeez expressed appreciation for the work done on the content bucket, and Thulie mentioned they were now working on a new issue related to the docs.

Documentation Link Management Strategy

Thulie and Mister discussed the issue of broken links due to the reorganization of documents. Mister explained that he initially tried to maintain backward compatibility by linking from GitHub to the website, but after talking with Lukas, they decided to prioritize documentation on the website and link directly between website pages. They agreed to update internal links to point within the website for existing documentation, while using Markdown links only for documents not yet available on the website.

Q2 Progress and Upcoming Events

Thulie reported that 16 out of 17 issues were completed for Q2, with one contributor suspended. Azeez discussed the upcoming Hacktoberfest, noting that unlike previous years, he would only work with maintainers who expressed interest in participating rather than seeking out repositories. Bami provided marketing updates about upcoming conferences, mentioning that campaigns were being prepared for events in London and Paris, and she needed speaker details for the London Conference to create promotional materials. Thulie confirmed that speaker names were available on the website and that she could provide talk titles.

Social Media Performance Analytics Review

Bami presented the social media performance for last month, noting that CFP posts on LinkedIn had an average of 185 impressions with a 10.27% engagement rate, while LinkedIn overall had 430.8 average impressions and a 2% increase in followers. Twitter (X) showed an average of 143 impressions per tweet with minimal engagement, though the percentage increases appeared high due to previously low engagement levels. Bami mentioned that Buffer only provides analytics for LinkedIn and X, not for YouTube or Mastodon, and shared that the convention spotlight featuring Aish had been published, with Maya's story ready for publication in August and Ugo's story under review.

Marketing Webinar Series Launch Plan

Bami updated the team on the marketing Q2 reports available on GitHub for review and discussed the speaker-generated content strategy suggested by Lukasz. The webinar series will launch on September 30th with Lukasz as the first speaker, followed by Timon in October and Gary in November, with publicity starting in late August. Bami also shared that there was an ongoing conversation about finding an RSVP platform that could serve all AsyncAPI events, with a focus on platforms that are open-source friendly and offer either free or discounted services. Thulie clarified that for CFP functionality, they already had sponsorship from ConfEngine.

AsyncAPI Events Platform Consolidation

The team discussed using a single platform for all AsyncAPI events, including the mentorship program, which could handle registrations, proposals, and applications. Bami confirmed that any platform suitable for a hackathon could also work for the mentorship program. Azeez provided a comprehensive meeting summary covering London conference preparations, Bangalore conference updates, the upcoming mentorship program wrap-up, documentation updates, the bounty program, design working group formation, Hacktoberfest plans, marketing updates, and the new webinar series launching on September 30th with Lukasz as the first guest.
