Setting setShouldExpand to true does not seem to expand the tabs

I am only assuming that setShouldExpand(true) is intended to make the tabs fixed width, consuming the width of its parent.

It seems that setting setShouldExpand(true) doesn't actually have this effect though.

Works for me. Make sure you don't have too much tabs, they are just going to fixed widths if the sum of their is less or equal the view's full width.

Hmm, I only have 3 tabs. I will try to get some screenshots to demonstrate.

Hello, I have the same issue. I've got 2 tabs, and I am setting the shouldExpand to true programmatically, is it all right? Or does it have to be through XML?

Had to force the weight on the source where it was instantiating the tabs.

I had exactly same problem but following code ,I found that if you need to set tabs shouldExpand you need to do it before setting viewpager to tabs.

    tabs = (PagerSlidingTabStrip) findViewById(R.id.slidingTabStrip);
    //Before  setting view pager

    tabs.setShouldExpand(true); //Works

    tabs.setViewPager(vpPager);

    //After setting view pager
    tabs.setShouldExpand(true); //Will not work
