Flash using raspberry pi 3B+ reboot issue

fails for me if I follow the wiring diagram on that page.

When I connect the 3V3 on the Sonoff basic to the RP3B+ to enter flash mode. The RP3B+ reboots. I tried 3 different RP3B+ along with different power supplies.

If I use an external 3V3 source (I used one from a nodemcu), Everything else in the instructions works successfully.

I'm not sure if this a thing specific to the new 3B+ versions? but putting this out there.

I don't think this behaviour is exclusive to the RPi 3 B+. My RPi 2 does the same with an official PSU. And you can still use the 3V source you just have to power the pi at the same time as holding the sonoff button. Once it's booted into flash mode it's fine. Obvs a pain when you need to reboot every time to cycle the power...

I got a cheap 3.3v regulator and wired it to the 5v GPIO with an inline switch to make power cycling the sonoff easier. Doesn't reboot the pi at all.

TLDR the wiki is wrong to suggest the 3B+ won't work AFAIK. Should also mention not to use the 3V3 GPIO instead an external source or step down the 5V pin to 3.3V

EDIT: I just thought this could be related to the module being connected. @mikewebb70 which were you using? Mine was a sonoff S26.

Even in the linked blog post from Michel Deslierres which the wiki is based off mentions this:

I often lost the SSH connection with the Raspberry Pi when I put the Sonoff into programming mode. The solution was to give the Sonoff an independent 3.3V power supply.

So I would say it's best not to use the onboard 3.3V
