Automatic hardware detection #4762

Description

@sidalsolgun

describe the request

It would be way better and less confusing if we have an automatic hardware detection as choosing what drivers to install is even confusing for me too, and I am not an end user.

    archinstall already detects

    @staticmethod
    def has_nvidia_graphics() -> bool:
    return any('nvidia' in x.lower() for x in _sys_info.graphics_devices)
    @staticmethod
    def has_amd_graphics() -> bool:
    return any('amd' in x.lower() for x in _sys_info.graphics_devices)
    @staticmethod
    def has_intel_graphics() -> bool:
    return any('intel' in x.lower() for x in _sys_info.graphics_devices)

    and then "recommends" but only through help text:

    if SysInfo.has_amd_graphics():
    header += tr('For the best compatibility with your AMD hardware, you may want to use either the all open-source or AMD / ATI options.') + '\n'
    if SysInfo.has_intel_graphics():
    header += tr('For the best compatibility with your Intel hardware, you may want to use either the all open-source or Intel options.\n')
    if SysInfo.has_nvidia_graphics():
    header += tr('For the best compatibility with your Nvidia hardware, you may want to use the Nvidia proprietary driver.\n')

    This doesn't cover hybrid iGPU + dGPU laptops paths.

    "This doesn't cover hybrid iGPU + dGPU laptops paths."

    This is the problem, we need dual GPU support.

    CachyOS and EndeavourOS also have hardware detection so we can use their system I guess?

    (I am not a programmer, just sharing my thoughts.)

    Well the issue is that there are several things here:

    https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PRIME

    Plus new asusctl package

    Overall its a bit of a mess. Which is probably why these are left to user configuration

    Probably I should stick to EndeavourOS forever.

    https://github.com/archlinux/archinstall/blob/master/archinstall/lib/hardware.py

    Check the line 50 from the link above:

    class GfxDriver(Enum):
    AllOpenSource = 'All open-source'
    AmdOpenSource = 'AMD / ATI (open-source)'
    IntelOpenSource = 'Intel (open-source)'
    NvidiaOpenKernel = 'Nvidia (open kernel module for newer GPUs, Turing+)'
    NvidiaOpenSource = 'Nvidia (open-source nouveau driver)'
    VMOpenSource = 'VirtualBox (open-source)'

    Imagine having intel+nvidia, amd+nvidia, and intel+amd hardware then seeing options like these...

    We have to fix/change this.

    Also anyone who is using archinstall must be an end-user, or someone who wants a system that just works.

    Archinstall should detect and install the best options for the user's hardware without asking the user.

    Let's keep it simple just like Arch Linux's philosophy says.

    Wait, so packages required for CPUs to work is already install automatically, and the section I mentioned above is just for GPU?

    If so I made a huge mistake by creating this issue.
